The owner of the electronics and white goods retailer Comet saw revenue rise during its first quarter.

Kesa Electricals, which also owns Darty France, posted an 8.2% increase in total revenue growth for the period from May 1st to July 31st 2010.

It operates 251 Comet stores and revealed it intends to refit 30 of the commercial properties during the second quarter, having completed nine remodellings during the opening three months.

Chief executive Thierry Falque-Pierrotin said demand for television at its retail business properties thanks to the football World Cup was one of the main reasons behind the strong performance.

The company saw "excellent TV sales in all [its] markets during the period", he remarked, but added: "We still anticipate that our markets will remain challenging for the remainder of this financial year."

Comet employs around 10,000 people in the UK and runs 14 service centres staffed by 600 engineers, as well as two call centres in Hull and Clevedon.
