A number of Waterstone's retail commercial properties are to close as parent company HMV Group looks to cut costs.

Earlier in the year HMV Group revealed it would be shutting 60 outlets across its portfolio and brands and this weekend 11 of the bookstores are to cease trading.

The stores in the UK and Republic of Ireland will shut on February 6th, with Coventry, Hemel Hempstead and Chelmsford among those set to be affected.

According to the Guardian, the focus is on closing stores in towns or cities that have more than one Waterstone's outlet, however the move will leave Luton, Tiverton and Dublin - where two closures are taking place - without a branch of the retailer.

In a trading update issued on January 5th, HMV Group said like-for-like sales for Waterstone's were down 2.1 per cent in the ten weeks to January 1st, while total sales also fell by the same figure.
